today’s edition of friday lyrics come from one of my favorite bands sleeping at last.? god has used their words and music to heal me, to help me process and to encourage me.? the song that’s been stuck on repeat is called say. (you can preview/download it here – this song is on the album “ghosts” but their album “keep no score” is also incredible.)
this week i needed to make a decision to follow and trust what god was putting on my heart instead of maybe the most popular and logical decision.? as the song says “say what you really want to say…and the truest of forms will show…finally you’ll find your soul.” when we’re honest with ourselves it’s amazing how much clarity that brings to our lives and our actions.
what’s your friday lyric? share in the comments.
Say what you really want to say
And the truest of forms will show
Finally you’ll find your soul
They impose the endless fight
To always be perfect.
It seems they have been chosen
To be above the rest.
But the contradiction stands
Between these perfect lives
And the words that they’ve misread…
There was no reading.
Say all the things that you really want to say
The truest of forms will show,
Finally you’ll find your soul.
Say all the things that you really want to say
The truest of forms will show
And finally you’ll find your soul.
The landscapes of being
Are endlessly competing, back and forth
For an answer to existence
That we can never find,
In all of the places that we’ve searched out,
In all of the pulses that we’ve taken…
There was no reading.
Say all the things that you really want to say
Then you’ll find, the truest of forms will show
And finally you’ll find your soul.
Say all the things that you really want to say
Then you’ll find, the truest of forms will show
And finally we’ll find our souls.
Give us the answers
And the ability to hear
The landscapes of being
Are endlessly competing, back and forth
For an answer to existence
That we can understand.
Perhaps we’re looking far too closely.
We can’t see
All the evidence in its entirety…
The air in our lungs,
The complexity of our love.
Say all the things that you really want to say
Then you’ll find, the truest of forms will show
And finally you’ll find your soul.
Say all the things that you really want to say.
Say what you really want to say
And the truest of forms will show,
Finally you’ll find your soul.

” Won’t Back Down” by Mat Kearney
You woke the morning up
Running off the darkest night
The longest light I?ve seen
Here goes a chance I know
Cashing in on all my chips
Let all my ships come fly
These days, a little bit longer than the last
And all of your ways, a little bit stronger than the past
And your light, found my bottle in the night
Kept me in this fight, gave me second life
And I won?t back down
I won?t turn around and around
And I won?t back down
Doesn?t matter what comes crashing down
I?m still gonna stand my solid ground
You found me once and for all
I laid it down in the sinking ground
The hopeless undertow
Singing out the gentle sound
Rattling through my smoking screens
My broken dreams last night
Hallelujah ripped through my veins
I heard the hammer drop
My blood in the rain
Hallelujah came like a train
When all is lost
All is left to gain
Hallelujah
Sometimes I need to remind myself that today is all I have. I can’t have yesterday back, and tomorrow is not guaranteed. Today is all that matters because it’s what God has given us.
“Our Lives” – The Calling
Is there love tonight
When everyone’s dreaming
Of a better life
In this world
Divided by fear
We’ve got to believe that
There’s a reason we’re here
‘Cause these are the days worth living
These are the years we’re given
And these are the moments
These are the times
Let’s make the best out of our lives
See the truth all around
Our faith can be broken
Yea, our hands can be bound
But open our hearts
And fill up the emptiness
With nothing to stop us
Is it not worth the risk?
‘Cause these are the days worth living
These are the years we’re given
And these are the moments
These are the times
Let’s make the best out of our lives
And even if hope was shattered
I know it wouldn’t matter
‘Cause these are the moments
These are the times
Let’s make the best out of our lives
We can’t go on
Thinking it’s wrong to speak our minds
I’ve got to let out what’s inside
Is there love tonight
When everyone’s dreaming
Can we get it right?
‘Cause these are the days worth living
These are the years we’re given
And these are the moments
These are the times
Let’s make the best out of our lives…
And even if hope was shattered
I know it wouldn’t matter
‘Cause these are the moments
These are the times
Let’s make the best out of our lives
love love love Sleeping At Last!

So we will run
All together our hearts aflame
With a fire that can’t be tamed
Our God all Glory to your name
We will run
Our surrender to bring you fame
Our desire that you be praised
Our God all Glory to your name
Jesus
…I love that “our surrender to bring you fame” line. good stuff
‘Let Your Winds Blow’
I stand in awe of a God whose heart is ravished over fallen man.
Washed in the power of innocent blood,
covering all of sin.
You come
You come
You consider me lovely
Let this truth open up my soul
I enter into your dwelling place
I hear you knock I open the door
And you come
You come
Let your winds blow
Let your winds blow
Let your winds blow on my garden
Emily- Wow. Who is that by?
i love me some sleeping at last. they are great guys.

CD: Throwing Punches in The Dark
Song: Refuge
website: http://www.myspace.com/mpjmusic
Lord, I feel the weight of a mountain
Pressing down inside my soul
I can see the pillars fallin?
There ain?t nothin? left to hold
The reigns are broken too
I can?t steer this
There?s nothing I can do
Except to throw my arms out
Take me to
A place where love can mend these wounds
Where mystery can dance with truth
And the broken soul finds refuge
I get so tired of fighting
Throwing punches in the dark
When mystery?s seduction
Keeps a blindfold on my heart
Oh, it seems too much
God I fear this
I?m longing for your touch
And for your kisses
Take me to
A place where love can mend these wounds
Where mystery can dance with truth
And the broken soul finds refuge
Can you calm this angry tide
The fears and rage inside
Won?t you lead to the place where beauty dwells
You go dancing on the hills
And I won?t rest until
You take me to the place where beauty dwells
Take me to
A place where love can mend these wounds
Where mystery can dance with truth
And the broken soul finds refuge
I see a generation
Rising up to take their place
With selfless faith
With selfless faith
I see a near revival
Stirring as we pray and seek
We’re on our knees
We’re on our knees
Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like you have loved me
Break my heart from what breaks yours
Everything I am for your kingdoms cause
As I go from nothing to
Eternity
Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley
Well I heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do ya?
Well it goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah (4 times)
Well Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
she tied you to her kitchen chair
And she broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah (4 times)
Well baby I’ve been here before
I’ve seen this room and I’ve walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew ya
I’ve seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah (4 times)
Well there was a time when you let me know
What’s really going on below
But now you never show that to me do you?
And remember when I moved in you?
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah (4 times)
Well maybe there’s a God above
But all I’ve ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who’d OUT DREW YA
And it’s not a cry that you hear at night
It’s not somebody who’s seen the light
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah (4 times)
Hallelujah (4 times)
Hallelujah (5 times, 4th held for a while)
There is a vice for all and it’s free
That place called pride where men yearn to be
It leads to frame our narcissistic society and the comfort of our perfect personalities
It’s easy, so easy – to look down
Nothing above at all to see, just sky and sun
It’s so easy, so easy for it to consume you
Like the cancer – it’s not yet quite done.”
BAT – from C.S. Lewis’ book
For most of this week, ringing in my ears :
Two Hearts Beat As One by U2
I don’t know
I don’t know which side I’m on
I don’t know my right from left
Or my right from wrong
Say I’m a fool
You say I’m not for you
But if I’m a fool for you
Oh, that’s something
Two hearts beat as one
Two hearts beat as one
Two hearts…
Can’t stop the dance
Honey, this is my last chance
I said, can’t stop the dance
Maybe this is my last chance
Two hearts beat as one
Two hearts beat as one
Two hearts…
They beat on black, beat on white
Beat on everything don’t get it right
Beat on you, beat on me, beat on love
I don’t know
How to say what’s got to be said
I don’t know if it’s black or white
There’s others see it red
I don’t get the answers right
I’ll leave that to you
Is this love out of fashion?
Or is it the time of year?
Are these words distraction
To the words you wanna hear?
Two hearts beat as one
Two hearts beat as one
I try to spit it out
I try to explain
The way I feel
Oh, yeah
Two hearts
I can’t stop the dance
Maybe this is my last chance
I said I can’t stop the dance
(repeat endlessly)
?Angels or Devils? by Dishwalla?
this is the last time
that I?m ever gonna come here tonight
this is the last time – I will fall
into a place that fails us all – inside
I can see the pain in you
I can see the love in you
but fighting all the demons will take time
it will take time
the angels they burn inside for us
are we ever
are we ever gonna learn to fly
the devils they burn inside of us
are we ever gonna come back down
come around
I?m always gonna worry about the things that could make us cold
this is the last time
that I?m ever gonna give in tonight
are there angels or devils crawling here?
I just want to know what blurs and what is clear – to see
still I can see the pain in you
and I can see the love in you
and fighting all the demons will take time
it will take time
the angels they burn inside for us
are we ever
are we ever gonna learn to fly
the devils they burn inside of us
are we ever gonna come back down – come around
I?m always gonna worry about the things that could break us
if I was to give in – give it up
– and then
take a breath – make it deep
cause it might be the last one you get
be the last one
that could make us cold
you know that they could make us cold
I?m always gonna worry about the things that could make us cold
winter by shawn mcdonald-
Sometimes I feel like winter, cold I feel
Icicles are forming
It’s hard to tell what is real
Cold winter, cold winter day
Frost is on the windshield and it’s hard to see
Air is like slivers
It’s hard to breathe
It’s a cold winter, cold winter day
Warm me up inside
And let your face from me not hide
‘Cause You are what I long for
To melt this cold heart of mine
‘Cause when You are around I am found
Sometimes I feel like the prodigal, a wandering weary son
Gone in search of something beautiful
Something to make me one
It’s a cold winter, cold winter day
The world is full of lies that will only rob you blind
Hit ya’ when you are not looking
And steal away your time
It’s a cold winter, cold winter day
And warm me up inside
Let Your face from me not hide
‘Cause You are what I long to find
To melt this cold heart of mine
And when You are around I am found
@ gabi
I don’t know who wrote it. I’m part of the International House of Prayer and they sing it here. A lot. In fact, I’m not sure that’s really the name of the song.
Freedom, Run Kid Run
All my chains I can’t disengage
And I don’t believe that I want to
One hand sings your praise
The other brings me shame
I have selfishness to blame
And I’m singing for freedom
I know I’m not the only one
Praying to the one
Who can bring me this freedom
I’m ready for change
Broke down I lay I keep holding my chains
No long bound but here I stay
I scream Father please
I need rescuing
I need You and You alone
And I’m singing for freedom
I know I’m not the only one
Praying to the one
Who can bring me this freedom
I’m ready for (change)
Still You patiently await
Yet I won’t just let go
I see You and You alone
Saying freedom
And so I’m singing for freedom
The time has come, separation lost the war to love
Take my hand, grace has found you where You once began
You’re Alive! You’re Alive! in the waking of new life
Take my hand in the end there’s only love
There’s only love…
There’s only singing for freedom
I know I’m not only one
Praying to the One
Who can bring me this freedom
I’m ready for, I’m ready for…
Father please I need rescuing
I need You and You alone
yea, i know this is Saturday morning.. but i was busy doing stuff on my Blog!LOL well, here’s my song and its still in my head..lol btw. I am a Newbie blogger… so if you visit my site.. please be kind! :)
Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone’s here
Everyone’s here
Everybody’s watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next?
What happens next?
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before
Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
The tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened before
oops, I didn’t say what song that was! Add strikes again! LOL It was Switchfoot Dare you to move! I also am going to start this little practice of friday lyrics, simply becasue i want to get into the habit of bloging more often, and that seemed like a good way to do it!
amazing song. love this album. wouldn’t have bought it if i hadn’t seen your twitter and ended up attending the show last-minute here in nashville. thanks!
@gabi-
that song is called “let the winds blow” and it’s by David Ruis. its pretty old school, but you could probably still find it somewhere. the CD is called Let the Winds Blow also.
Thankyou so much!
Everybody’s on the Phone (also on my blog), goes along with the video in your next post.
Message in a bottle, rhythm of a drum
Smoke signals and telegraphs make the airwaves hum
But that?s all ancient history like bongs and Lincoln Logs
Now we livin? like the Jetsons in a wacky wireless fog
Talkin? squawkin? hawkin? who knows if anybody?s gettin? through
Toasters talk to crackberries, Boston to Bombay
Teenage schemes and Ma-bell?s dreams as minutes tick away
We act like crazy people talking to ourselves
Crashing cars in conversation while that stuff flies off the shelf
The information superhighways locked up like a L.A. traffic jam
Everybody?s on the phone
So connected and all alone
From the pizza boy to the socialite
We all salute the satellites
Let me text you with your master plan
You?re loud and clear but I don?t understand
I?m a digital explorer in analog roam
And everybody?s on the phone
Do you remember dialing up?
Yes I remember well
Now I just can?t go anywhere with out that sacred cell
I think that I might die if I miss anything at all
Text me, send me an e-mail, link me up, give me a call
I?m ADD on AOL tryin to read the writing on the wall
Everybody?s on the phone
So connected and all alone
From the pizza boy to the socialite
We all salute the satellites
Let me text you with your master plan
You?re loud and clear but I don?t understand
I?m a digital explorer in analog roam
And everybody?s on the phone
Now I?m a real jungle jumper
I?m a megahertz man
I swing from tree to tree on the very latest plan
On the download In the dropout zones
In every major city ?cross the land
I got my Marley on my ringtone, get up, stand up, reach out, touch somebody man
Everybody?s on the phone
So connected and all alone
From the pizza boy to the socialite
We all salute the satellites
Let me text you with your master plan
You?re loud and clear but I don?t understand
I?m a digital explorer in analog roam
And everybody?s on the phone
Can you hear me?
Can you hear me now?
I gotta get over by the beerstand
Oh no my batteries are going
I?ll call you back
(Jimmy Buffett, Peter Mayer, Roger Guth, Will Kimbrough)
Oh, Mercy, fall on me like a warm blanket…on my cold, cold heart
Clean me with Your blood that turns me white on the inside
I’m on my knees again ’cause I’m breaking Your heart
Put in me…what I cannot buy with gold
Put in me, oh God…come restore my broken soul
Put in me…what I cannot give myself
Put in me…a clean heart
I know all my broken places like the back of my hand
That slapped your face again
Wash me in your love and hold me tight like a baby
Till I have no memory of ever breaking Your heart
And in the joy when you restore me I will stand and walk again
I will run into this world I will call them to come in
But I will not point my finger or grow that wicked skin
That cannot remember what I will not forget
How I broke you, or how I’m broken
“put in me” by 100 Portraits and Waterdeep from the Enter the Worship Circle CD.
