One of the ?second opinions? in Mad Church Disease was written by my friends Shawn Wood. I met Shawn at a conference three years ago. Shawn did a talk called ?Brand Schizophrenia? which he ended with what he called ?the artist?s mandate.” The mandate was pretty simple and as an artist right up my alley.
Here is how Shawn puts it: We are all artists (Moms, web developers, baseball players, single dads, CEOs, Authors, Pastors etc.) and we have a mandate from God to be Great at the art we produce. The mandate is simply living a life of influence and meaning in a way that will affect others and leave a legacy that all shines back to the master artist that saved us all – Jesus.
There was a publisher at that conference and that simple mandate turned into a book that encourages everyone to be artists called 200 Pomegranates and an Audience of One.
Shawn is a story teller. It?s a great story. I like great stories. So, I wanted to give away ten copies of a great story.
As with all book giveaways I would love to give you all one, but alas I only have a limited number?so here is how you can win.
Leave a comment to this post with your favorite book that we should all be reading this summer and a few of you will get the chance to have a autographed copy of 200 Pomegranates and an Audience of One sent your way soon!

Mud Puppy?s last blog post..WEEKLY LINKS: Grab Bag Edition
The Hole In Our Gospel by Richard Stearns – not exactly light summer reading. But I don’t think that’s what your readers are looking for either. LOL
unChristian
it’s not the newest book out there but I thoroughly loved “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan.

A couple of must haves that I just finished
The Principle of the Path by Andy Stanley
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell
Two that are in the backpack to be read soon:
Ten Questions to Diagnose your Spiritual Health by Donald Whitney
Knowing Christ Today by Dallas Willard
Matt Haines?s last blog post..A Needed Reminder About the Gospel
Not just b/c Anne Jackson wrote it, but Mad Church Disease was a great read at a great time in my life, but another book to notice and read this summer, is Leading On Empty by: Wayne Cordeiro
Santos Samayoa?s last blog post..This is a only a JOKE!!
Here’s the roster of books that I’m reading this Summer:
Holy Bible
Hole In Our Gospel (Richard Stearns)
Servolution (Dino Rizzo)
The Rest of God (Mark Buchanan)
Voices of the Faithful (Beth Moore & Friends)
Mad Church Disease (hmm, let me guess)
I have at least 12 new books that have shown up on my desk in the past month or so, thus I’ll never catch up ;-)
best book i’ve read this year is seth’s godin’s Tribes
epic stuff
Two books I have read recently that I think are great are:
Killing Cockroaches by Tony Morgan, it is a fast read and offers a lot of great thoughts on leadership, focus and ministry.
The second is Chazown from Craig Groechel, for the past 2 years or so I have been feeling called to ministry and went through a season of getting a job offer at a big church but things did not work out. (I think God was seeing if I was willing.) But Chazown really has you look at your life and help you determine God’s vision for your life. We all have gifts and a purpose and this book helps to focus you on those things.
Keith Tackel?s last blog post..Edge worship is finished and a new season begins.
Found an old favorite at Half Price Books the other day: The Joyful Christian by C.S. Lewis.
Community: The Structure of Belonging by Peter Block – “My intent” he writes, “is provide structural ways to create the experience of belonging, not just in those places where people come to just be together socially, but especially in places where we least expect it. This includes those places where people come together to get something done. These are our meetings, dialogues, conferences, planning processes??all those occasions where we gather to reflect on and decide the kind of future we want for ourselves.”
I am reading “Refractions: A Journey of faith, art, and culture” by Makoto Fujimura
http://www.amazon.com/Refractions-Journey-Faith-Art-Culture/dp/1600063012/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1245960379&sr=8-1
(because the author gave me a beautiful handmade bookmark, but it is a beautiful book!)
and
“How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth” by Gordon D. Fee and Douglas Stuart
(because I wished for it on paperbackswap.com. I forgot why I wished for it though)
Mark Cole?s last blog post..Iran Guardian Council:Iran?s Vote Count is incorrect

Hearing God. Dallas Willard. So good!
Linnae Hoppe?s last blog post..Going Beyond – Austin, TX
I just finished re-reading “My Name is Asher Lev” by Chaim Potok. Love that novel and the way its characters wrestle with God and art. An old book, but speaks to my soul every time I read it.
Acedia and Me by Kathleen Norris-feeling so overloaded by the constant barrage of information that you feel like you do not care about anything anymore? Ms. Norris deals with this syndrome called “acedia”
Some of my favorites:
Killing Cockroaches – Tony Morgan
Next Generation Leader – Andy Stanley
In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day – Mark Batterson
Meatball Sunday – Seth Godin
Tribes – Seth Godin

Also making the cut:
Made to Stick-heath brothers
Twelve Ordinary Men-McArthur
Learning my name-Pete Gall
Second hand Jesus-Glenn Packiam
There you go! :)
Josiah?s last blog post..Bastion Augustin
Two recommends: Francis Chan’s Crazy Love (the Holy Spirit pwned me big time through this book) and The Prodigal God, by Timothy Keller (great insight and reminder of Jesus’ parable of the lost son).
Clearly I need to win a book b/c I haven’t read as many inspirations books for MYSELF as I need to — I’m at the stage of parenthood where I’m reading a lot of Goodnight, Moon and 1st Level Readers, LOL!
But a book that has helped my parenting is Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes? in You and Your Kids by Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller.
Sounds like a great author I should look into!

For any guys, “The Christian Husband” by Bob Lepine is a GREAT resource on true Biblical masculinity and the man’s role in marriage.
I am rereading a book that everyone needs to read, especially those who are in leadership and ministry – Humility by C.J. Mahaney. It is a very small book, but packed with so much. This is my third time reading it in the past year, and it is really ministering to my soul. Hope you guys go out and get it.

I am a big book reader…probably my favorite of late is The Grand Weaver by Ravi Zacharias. Incredible way of describing the way that God has woven together all things that happen.
Lindsey?s last blog post..My Home…The Garden Shop
The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning!!!!
I personally am still digesting and reading “Pagan Christianity” and “Reimagining Church”. Highly recommended to everyone. Coming from years of ministry training & ministry doing, in what I considered to be a cutting edge, forward-thinking, ministry I didnt think it would be TOO revolutionary. Wrong. They are. They have been two of the most challenging books to my faith – – err religion – – thus yet.
I would suggest reading The Noticer by Andy Andrews. A good, easy read that has a huge impact. Changes one’s perspective which is usually whacked out anyway.
Gave away 15 copies of “Same Kind of Different as Me” by Ron Hall and Denver Moore. Love that true story of the most unlikely friends, and the woman who brought them together.
Lucille?s last blog post..Death of Michael Jackson – grief tips
My favorite book that your should be reading is Nate Larkin’s new book, Samson & The Pirate Monks. It is about his journey as a recovering sexual addict, confusion from his religious past and a solution to the problem. It was good stuff and a great read.
Kevin Davis?s last blog post..Review: Transformational Architecture
I don’t normally read many non-christian books and I wouldn’t normally recommend one, but this one is really good, and also has a lot of wise sayings from Proverbs.

Alex Penduck?s last blog post..Over Analyzing!
I recommend “Servolution” by Dino Rizzo. It was wonderfuly heartening to know someone’s doing the things we believe in – from serving neighbors to working together with other churches.
Two books –
1. “Laughing Matters” by Phil Calloway. Great for anyone who’s going through a tough time or a needs a lift. I read it at the end of a tough day and the end of a tough week. It was very timely. When I picked it up I couldn’t put it down. I alternately laughed and cried all the way through it.
2. “The Love Dare.” Good practical, godly, Biblical day to day advice. And it applies to other day to day relationships, not just marriage.
I am just finishing John Ortberg’s Faith and Doubt and can recommend it and Soul Revolution by John Burke. I wish to finish this summer Anne’s book Mad Church Disease and plan to read a few books recommended to me this summer: The Naked Church by Wayne Jacobsen, Margin by Richard Swensen, Chasing Francis by Ian M Cron, Redesigning Worship by Kim Miller, and True North by Bill George.
The Divine Commodity !!!!!
Such a stretching little book. It will cause you to look at everything in a new light. And Skye incorporates art throughout the book, which is just amazing.
Love it!

I’d recommend ‘Dreaming With God’ by Bill Johnston. That book made me FINALLY realise I’m a creative being, created by Creator God, in His image. It doesn’t get much better than that.
It’s been a long time since a book has made my brain shift out of its rut like it did.

ANYHOW, I have to pace myself in order to savor what can only be described and a taste sensation for my brain.
And Mad Church Disease, of course.
