Her name is Anne…Anne with an E.

Yesterday was my 29th birthday. I don’t feel any older. I don’t look any older. I did my taxes and caught up on email last night.

Very, very sentimental.

Every Friday, I peruse the Compassion website to pray for the kids they have listed. Today, I picked the three year olds. The first girl that showed up was a girl named Anne.

Anne.

With an “E.”

Just like me.

It’s very sassy you know.

Anne with an E lives in Haiti. Once, I wrote about Haiti. This video explains more than the words I could write.

If you don’t watch the video, let me sum it up. People eat dirt there. Literally. They make cookies out of butter, water, salt, and dirt. About 25 a day will keep them from starving, but will eventually kill them.

This is where Anne with an E lives.

compassion-international-anne-haitiAnne with an E helps her parents around the house by doing laundry and running errands.

Don’t forget. She’s three. Years. Old.

By sponsoring Anne with an E, you’ll be positively influencing her whole family with food, medical care, and quite literally, the love of Christ.

You can click here to be taken to Anne’s sponsorship page.

Or if Anne has already been sponsored by the time you read this and you’d like to search for another child, you can click here.

Anne, it’s kinda strange that you post this three-year-old from Haiti as my husband and six men are waiting on a runway in Miami to fly to Haiti. They are headed to an “orphanage” in Cabaret, where some of the worst damage from hurricanes & floods happened last year (three hurricanes in 12 days). This “orphanage” is primarily a pavilion where the kids come in off the streets to get a meal. One. Daily. One.

Methinks this will begin a long relationship of sponsoring several children — I just can’t wait for my chance to go down there and love on ’em! When we set up the next trip, you wanna tag along?

When our crew that’s going now gets back, we’ll be setting up trips. I’ll let you know as soon as I find out.

My husband just got back from Kenya where he was serving with some friends of ours that are building an orphanage there. He’s getting ready to head to Haiti in about two weeks.

In Kenya we met kids that lived on landfills and made their living (and their meals) from the “treasures” they found there. They saved the lives of two children who had been severely burned by family members that didn’t want them anymore. They heard the stories of women who, since Chris came home, have passed away from HIV and AIDS because, as the saying goes, “The most dangerous job in Kenya is to be a faithful wife.” Kenya wrecked us forever.

When we told our friends in Kenya about this trip to Haiti this is what they said…

“Hold on to your hats. Its way worse.”

The next baby we sponsor will most certainly be from Haiti for this very reason.

If ever a country was in need of God’s grace our our help it’s Haiti – the poorest and most unstable country in the western hemisphere.

Hi Anne: I sponsored Anne Ruth Larose. I had been checking into sponsoring a child through the Christian organization I work for and then I read your blog today and knew she was the one I would sponsor. Thank you.

I wish there was a place where every church or individual involved with an effort in Haiti could come together to coordinate resources. Our congregation supports and ophanage and supports a school as well as many individual children. What is everyone else doing? With your voice, maybe we could try and find out.

    I appreciate your heart.

Waughbirds, If you are not already aware of it, here is a link to Real Hope for Haiti. There are other links there. It’s a place to start.

Happy late birthday, Anne with an E.

I love what you do. And I can’t believe you’re only 29!!!! Not that you look older, but all that you do and have done to only be 29 years old!!!!! That’s incredible. :)

I went to Haiti a couple of years ago. The poverty is as bad as everyone says it is. I wasn’t prepared for what I saw and experienced. It changed my life.

Anne with an e… takes me delightfully back to the days when I would read and re-read Anne of Green Gables. She also loved the e at the end. I love being Sara with no H but it doesn’t have the cadence.

On another blog I read, we heard about Compassion International, and have just started sponsoring a little girl from Kenya! What a great use for part of our tithe.

Our church has sponsored a school in Haiti for many years, and the reason Haiti was chosen was because they are the closest impoverished country to us ( here in Alabama)—giving fresh eyes to the verse “Love your neighbor.” They are our closest poor neighbor.
