I work for a Christian radio station that broadcasts in Oklahoma City. I’m trying to convince our managers to take this up and doing it from the angle of a radio station.
sigh …for a few weeks I’ve been feeling God meaybe leading me to tell people not to give me gifts or money for Christ-mas but to give to some sort of cause
honestly, I’ve struggled with that because …well I like getting stuff and I could really use the money since I’m a recent college grad and full-time minister
but this video …powerful. wow. it was like God speaking to me through the typo animation.
awhile back we decided that our message series for our youth mid-week gatherings would be called “Christmas is forgiving”, and this would be a great way to end it – by taking a collection for clean water
powerful.
one thing i like about living in the netherlands is that there is no tradition of giving gifts at christmas. we just… celebrate. although, over the last couple of years people are starting to get into the whole gift giving thing and i don’t like it.
great video. i love advent conspiracy. every christmas, Jesus ends up doing something radical thru me (usually involving sacrifice on behalf of the poor) that I didn’t expect. I guess the incarnation is still happening…
YEAH!!! i posted this on my blog awhile back. I think I’ll do it again now that the season is drawing nearer.

What about preaching the Gospel to people? I totally agree with the idea of skipping Christmas and giving to the poor GREAT IDEA but there has to be an emphasis on preaching the Gospel ! No, not dragging more people into a church building but sending the church out to preach the Gospel. How will they know unless they hear? They don’t know, they don’t hear, we don’t preach.
hmmm
if necessary, use words…
jud
St. Francis said that and it is wrong. The GOSPEL saves people not my example, or yours or the churches good deeds.

please don’t start controversy (comments above) God created each of us unique with unique ways of sharing the gospel. Some don’t need to speak; some can’t speak but can, by their life and example, bring more to the Kingdom than you or I ever will, Jud! And some need to speak. So use your gifting, and let others use theirs…and leave the judgement to the Lord where it belongs, please!
lls, exactly at what point did I judge anyone… I take that accusation as being, well… judgemental.
hmmm
so how do deaf people hear? or people without language?
jud
Well, sign language for the deaf and let me in on what % of the world’s population doesn’t have a language !!! I know the Wyclyffe Society probably is already on that. I refer back to the Great Commission, It doesn’t tell us to go to the suburbs, build elaborate campuses launch and publicize targeted mission efforts (nothing against missions) and try to lure people with clever marketing and felt needs series. In it Christ calls us as individuals to go OUT and preach the Gospel and make disciples.
I really like the idea of Advent Christmas, but like so many other efforts the church dives into we treat the Gospel message as a powerless crazy Aunt that lives in the basement. The gist seems to be that if we can get the World to like us, then maybe they will like our Jesus.
