i am not naturally a morning person, but when i wake up, i’m up and alert (typically).? sometimes i use sleep aids like lunesta or in really bad seasons, clonazepam, to help me sleep.
with the lunesta, i know i will wake up exactly 7 hours after i took the pill.
last night i took a lunesta at 9:10 pm, knowing i needed to be awake by 4:30 am in order to be out at our dickson campus by 8 am.? since it had been a while since i’d had a lunesta, i set two alarms.? however, 4:10 rolled around and i’ve been wide awake for the last twenty minutes.
since a lot of you are church staff members or volunteers, i was wondering…what time do you wake up on sunday to do your church thang?

(normally i wake up closer to 6, but since dickson is sixty miles away, we have to head out at 7, thus the early rising!)
Anne
I am up by 4 my body alarm always wakes me up and during the week my body alarm wakes up at 3 cause I have to be at work by 5. so I am an early riser, of course most nights Im in bed by 8 unless Im at a meeting or having to work a double
Good Morning!
Usually get up around 6am for 11am service just to be able to get to church and make sure everything is in place and that I place myself in the right frame of mind for the day.
That is, if I feel prepared….if I dont feel prepared it is a long restless night and I get up earlier! If Im not prepared I have crazy ‘church nightmares’ all night. You know, just like the ones where you just walk into school and realize you forgot your pants. Ive talked to pastors who say they’ve had the same thing…probably a symptom of mad church disease!
at 4:00 a.m. every day.
a las 4:00 a.m. cada dia
Sometime around 8am. I’m a college student so thats early for me!
5:45 am Eastern Standard Time
6ish. this am i awoke with a headache (ouch!) so i laid in the bed for a few extra minutes.
This is distinguish how many comments you have received before 7 am. We church people are a rare breed.
So.
Me.
When I lead worship I’m up at 6 am.
When I’m producing I’m up at 5:15 am.
I’m producing this morning.
:(
Yeah… I’m up right now…. and that sucks…..
We wake up around 7am and are at the church at 8:30am. First service starts at 9:30am. Now, we’re 7 hours ahead of ya, so we can change those times to midnight, 0130 and 0230 OKC time :-).
work days between 515 -6 depending if i work out. :)
Anne, we rent space in a church building at the moment so our service begins at 1:30pm (crazy, I know!). As it’s 4:45am (Sunday) here and unfortunately a typical day (no Lunesta prescription), I generally go to sleep around 5:30-6:00am and wake up around 9:30am on Sundays.
i’m just a volunteer… and usually rise around 6. however with our kids worship service starting next week and call time being 7, i’ll have to be up around 5:00 to get myself ready and then drag my three kiddos out of bed. the first few weeks are gonna be an experiment in patience! :)
5 to be here by 5.45-6.00. No one else gets here until 7.00 or so. Its nice and quiet.
I have Lunesta AND Ambian…hate them both…I don’t even have a sleeping problem and the doctor prescribed them to me…so if you ever run out of yours and need a back up…let me know (does this officially make me a “drug dealer??”) hahhaa..
I’m very much a morning person….I like to get up and get going…then I slow down around 1:00ish and have to take a nap…awww…. I love naps!!
8am, I have to be ready to rip at 9:30, yes life is good.
I have to be at the church at 7am; so I usually wakeup at 6:40 and do my best superman impression getting ready.
Like you, I’m not a morning person… AT ALL…..Up by 7:30 (after hitting the snooze 2-3 times), at church by 8:00…. ZZZzzzzzzzz
Rob typically doesn’t sleep the night before he preaches, which doesn’t work out very well considering he has to preach 2 days in a row. It makes for a very loooong Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately for him, the rest of us are well-rested and ready to party!
:)
We have to arrive at 8am for band rehearsal. Half hour drive to get there(my kids are exhausted). I get up at 6am….ONLY ON SUNDAYS! Day of rest??? No.
6:00 on Sundays
8:00 on weekdays
6:00 if I plan on surfing before hitting the office during the week.
I lead worship in the 6pm service…don’t ever want to know what time I get up :)
Sunday mornings….wife and 3 kids….ummmm, hee..hee It’s a zoo at my house. Lots of poop to step over….well, not literally! I am beginning to write my first book. Can you give me any advise? I have already asked Lucado, but he seems to be tied up :)
Normally i am drinking my coffee by 6:15 AM but i now find myself having sleep issues also. I’m taking Rozerem but it’s too early to tell how well it’s working. I hate the affects of burn-out!
6:00 am.
but that’s because we do set-up from 5:00-6:30 pm on Saturday nights…
otherwise i’d get up at 4:00 am on Sundays.
i get up at 4:50 am during the week for my other job, so 6:00 am is my version of sleeping in! :)
hope you had a great day.
On Sundays – my earliest day by far, I get up a little before 6:00 am and am at church by 7:15.
during the week I get up around 7:00 – 7:30 depending on night meetings, rehearsals and the like.
I am a morning person – 4 a.m. I have a built-in alarm clock…my husband always has to take someone at our church to the airport so if their flight leaves at 4 a.m. I don’t even have to set an alarm clock – Voila….there’s that word again!!! I’m up at 3!!!!
On Sundays – up at 4 at church 7:30 a.m. By 7 a.m. when my hubby gets up I’ve usually done 1/2 day’s work!!! But I save my 2nd cup of coffee for us together. We start the day together but not at night.
8:30 for 9:30…in theory. I HATE mornings and am always late for church. Good thing we never actually start on time…
During the week I wake at 4:50 to say good-bye to my husband who is going for his morning workout. Then I go back to bed till 6:30ish.
On Sundays…I wake about 7:00ish. I have to be to chuch around 8:30. I am in a household of boyz so…they don’t need the time I do to get ready. That give me some time to pay alittle extra attention to my appearence on Sundays.
I usually get up between 6 – 6:30 a.m. We begin at 10:00 a.m. so that gives me plenty of time to walk next door to the church. If I’m still unsettled on what I am doing for the worship service it can be much earlier.
During the week about the same to get my son to school.
My church is about 2 years old and we meet in a movie theater. I wake up at like 5:30am, leave the house at 6:15am to be at the theater for set-up at 6:30am. It takes us about two hours to set up the sound and lights and what-not, while others are setting up the outside. And then sound check/final run through is at 8:30am.
I get up at 5:45am
i wake up at 8 a.m. on sunday mornings. sunday school is at 9:30 and i lead worship in 10:30 a.m. service. the gospel channel gets me going and a big cup of strong coffee as i get moving on sunday mornings.
I’m part of a portable church that meeting in a movie theater. My husband and I get up at 6:30am but the people who have to set up the church get up at around 4:30-5am! We all do it with a smile though! :)
On a typical sunday morning I’m up between 8 and 8:30 and at the church between 9 and 9:30. MWF are office days at the church and I’m up at 6am in the office by 8am and work until 6pm. Off on Saturdays.
5:18 AM
I’d be curious too at what time people usually go to bed on Saturday nights before getting to serve on Sundays. (notice the word GETTING to serve). :)
Me.
I normally go to bed around 11:30pm or midnight on Saturday nights and get up at 6am to get our family to church by 8am. We’re only 10 minutes from our church. We then leave church around 1pm (we attend one of our two services and serve during the second service).
4:30 -5:00 a.m. I read over my message twice before I go in.
Our alarm goes off at 6:15. Up by 6:30. Kids up by 6:45 and we’re off to chruch at 8:00 for our 9:30 service. I love the routine but I love the smell of coffee brewing more. Home at 2:00 and NAPTIME!! I’ve been in ministry for 2 years now and I am officially a Sunday afternoon napper! :)
Depends on what I’m doing. For example, today I was preaching at a church 40 miles away, so I was up at 5:30am. Normally, I am up at 6:30am to make it to church before 9:00am for our youth prayer time before Sunday School. (I also live 20 minutes from the church, so you have to factor that in too!)
between 7:00 and 7:30. i have a good relationship with my snooze button.
Anne, I wake up at 6 am on Sundays in order to get a nice jog in, invest some time in the Word and prayer, and shower and be at my church by 8 am.
Weekdays I get up at 7 am in order to do all that and be at the church office at 9 am (except Friday – that’s my “sabbath” and I usually end up sleeping in ’til about 10 am).
6am
On Sundays 6:00am.
Weekdays usually 6:30am, sometimes 7:00am.
I desire to get up earlier to workout, but I’m not a morning person so I work out later in the day.
Alarm is set for 5:17am Sunday mornings.
Yesterday I woke up at 4:45am. Too many jalapenos in the guacamole.
alarm is set for 5am but God nearly always wakes me up before that.
Several years ago one of our teaching pastors shared that he prays before he goes to bed that God will wake him up when it’s time. I’ve adopted this and have only slept until the (back up) alarm once in over 3 years.
0600 on weekends when i am producing; get to church by 0700…:)
I get up at 3:15 everyday except for Friday (my day off). Sunday morning I like to practice my sermon, do an outline for my bride (who does the Power Point), make cheat sheets in my Bible, practice it with the cheat sheets, then spend some time winding down and praying before we start set up at 8:00. Takes about an hour to do that.
aroun 6:30…but I hit snooze about 18 times :)
I hate mornings! The only day I wake up excited is Sunday. I usually wake around 5:00 and leave the house at 6:45. Our first service starts at 8:30 and I’m always surprised that someone would come to that service. I would never go that early if I had a choice.
it varies. i have three children so i have to start pretty early. plus, i leave in guthrie which is about 45 minutes from my church. ok, i normally get up by 7:30 a.m. with hopes of being at church by 10 a.m. and churching starting at 11 a.m.
Since my “real” job is outside of the church, my day typically begins with the alarm invading my sleep around 4:30am, so that I shuffle into work between 5:30am & 6:15am. I am not a morning person & value my sleep, but sometimes work calls & long hours are req’d, but not appreciated.
on sundays i’m up at 5:15am or 5:30am…this allows me to get ready physically, mentally, and spiritually…then i’m out the door at 7:15am for my 30 second walk to the church…i do my best to get at least a one hour nap in the afternoon so i’m not captain cranky pants later in the day…
on Sunday we’re (my husband and I) up at 4:45. it totally and completely bites! i dread saturday nights and i HATE waking up before the sun…if i’m being totally honest:)
oh… nevermind. i didn’t read this well enough that it asked about sunday morning. i’ve been doing that a lot lately, mis-reading. sorry. i wake up around noon on sundays. the glorious life of a monday-friday church staffer.
6:15 am every Sunday morning. Man, I thought I had to be up early.
Usually 6:45. I need to be at the church at 8ish for set up. Sometimes set up takes longer than other times. We are in rented space. So if an event happened there the night before, we might have to set up chairs and rearrange staging. But sometimes it’s still set from the week before.
Takes me 11 minutes to get to church. And I usually go to bed around midnight.
I get up at 5:15 usually….our sound check starts at 6:30 and i have to be there by 6:15 so i can set up food for the choir (i wear 2 hats) and then be in sound check for flow and to program lighting.
