nashville weather via twitter

if you have been around for very long, you know I LOVE THE WEATHER. ever since i saw my first tornado when i was five years old, i became obsessed. i would literally sit for hours and just watch the weather channel. no saturday morning cartoons for me. nope. give me mark mancuso anyday.

my love for weather, especially severe scary kinds, hasn’t died. i’ve blogged about a few big storms

imagine my delight when i discovered one of my coworker’s husband, charlie, is a meteorologist on CBS!

and it’s not like he just talks about the weather…he lives and breathes it. we were at a fourth of july party and while the fireworks are going off, i looked down and he’s checking the radar on his phone. and he used the word mesocyclonic in conversation.

which i think is incredibly awesome.

slowly, a few of us pressured tried to get charlie to twitter.

i mean, how amazing would it be to get weather updates in a personal style, straight to my phone from my favorite weather guy? what if there was a tornado and the power was out and i needed to know if it was safe?

well, last night, he bit the bullet and signed up.

so, if you are in nashville and want to have your own personal weather guru on your phone, or if you just love weather, you should follow charlie on twitter!

while you’re clicking around, check out his blog, and his wife, eve’s blog.

what other fun but practical uses can you think of for twitter?

I’ve been DYING for someone like this in my area! Anne, when are you moving to Omaha? ;-)

speaking of speaking (from facebook), here’s to you getting a slot at next year’s leadership summit!

    Anne,

Thanks for all of your help and encouragement with Twitter. Now, I get to write/talk about weather even more! What more could I want? Now if I can just get Twitter to help me CONTROL the weather…

I’ve loved weather since I was little too. I was at babysitters house and at 3 years old I cried when she took me away from the window while I was watching a huge storm! Gerr her!

Anyone who uses mesocyclone is undoubtedly cool

I can totally relate to this. My wife is a main anchor for a local TV station and she’s always emailing me updates when severe weather is around. I in turn pass that info to my co-workers and fellow twitterers.

It’s kinda fun when your wife is “in-the-know”. Plus, I get to hear the news that they can’t talk about on TV!

One thing we learned on the Gulf Coast growing up was that if Jim Cantore came to town, you needed to leave. That guy was always where you didn’t want to be.

I loved hurricanes year in and year out because we never got any damage where I lived. Then I moved to New Orleans for school, and lived there in 2005… I sat through TS/Hurricane Cindy by myself, then turned around and watched my life get flooded away… and suddenly my perspective changed.

Storms I like. When it’s just a storm that really doesn’t hurt anybody or cause much damage, then it’s cool. But when it comes to hurricanes and New Orleans… my chest tightens up every time I think about it.

Still, I can watch the Weather Channel for hours too.

That is actually a GREAT idea Anne…I too love the weather, as a matter of fact, when on vacation it is actually one of my favorite things to watch. I wanna know what’s going on in the area we are at!!!

my husband just started twittering…and now I feel the pressure. I don’t want to do it, but I’m thinking if I find a good app for my BB then I will do it.

When i was in radio i enjoyed doing weather reports but in AZ it’s usually boring. Having lived in Kansas for nearly 8 years we kept our eyes and ears open, it was kind of exciting at times. Now that we are back in Arizona the weather is it’s back to the same ol’ thing except during monsoon season.

my husband calls me a freak (not really) because I am obsessed with all things weather-related too. Hmmm…

(my recurring nightmare when I was a little girl was that a tidal wave would come and wash us out to sea. when was there a tidal wave in long beach, california? never. )

Thanks so much, Anne, for getting Charlie fired up about his weather twitter! He’s so excited and it gives him yet another medium to share a topic he’s incredibly passionate about. And, nothing is more attractive to Charlie than a woman who understands the meaning of mesocyclonic!

Thanks again for your invaluable support and friendship!

Hey Anne! My brother is chief meteorologist for Air Force One! I’ve always thought that was cool, althought he says the hours are pretty demanding. He can get you weather reports from anywhere in the world!
