The Hole : The Hope

i never can seem to translate what is in my head after visiting a slum. a true, third-world slum. the sights and smells and naked babies and starved dogs and sweat and raw sewage and shacks and the most impacting thing.

hope.

    Some of the most incredible, beautiful people I’ve ever met or known I met on in a slum the mission field in a 3rd world country. God moves faster in our hearts when we get out of our comfort zone.

    I spent my day in somewhat similar conditions right here in my own town, to a much lesser degree, I’m sure. What strikes me is the picture. The child is clean. Appears healthy. He’s wearing a nice clean shirt. You found this kid in The Hole?

    Please tell us, how did he get this hope?

    The kids I see are filthy and sickly and either naked or might as well be. And there is no hope shining in their eyes or their smile. How do we give those kids the hope this kid has?

    @all – thanks

    @prairie – actually, the picture is a bit deceiving. he was really dirty…

    i think their hope is innocence. they see so many terrible things, but they know nothing different to make them lose that hope.

    Anne, that picture is not deceiving at all. We see exactly what there is to see. Hope and love. You are bringing the truth and I love that you are there to share it. Thank you.

    It’s the hope in his eyes and smile that shine through any “dirt” that may exist. Great that you are able to do this and thanks for sharing.

    When I think of countries that are consumed in poverty, I always pray for the children. This face just brought tears to my eyes, but also prompted me to give God praise. Praying for you and the team. I thank God for people like you who are willing and able to reach out to those in need. God bless you

    I think this is your answer to the question in the next post. Showing people what hope looks like, showing people what struggle looks like, sending people to have their lives changed, and to then continue sharing stories…it’s all a HUGE part. Once you travel to places you would never want you child or parent living in… it breaks your heart for all the people who do…and if you let it, it will change your life. Forever. Kind of like God in that way. It’s all there, we just have to let it change us. And follow through.
