30 hours to thailand

last night i got to meet a couple from lifechurch.tv who are moving to bangkok. they are both from there, but have been living in the states for a long, long time. god really worked in their lives over the little while and they are pretty much packing up and leaving this weekend to go. talk about crazy quick obedience!

the woman talked some about her mom, who lives in thailand, and is culturally buddhist. her mom really wanted them to move back, so the woman challenged her to pray. and wow, her prayers were answered quickly! her mom had even been praying for employment to open up and sure enough, the woman’s husband found a job!

it was so inspiring to see god working in this couple’s life. i would imagine the task of moving 30 hours away to another country would be quite overwhelming (i moved only 4 hours from dallas to okc and i remember how stressful it was). but the only vibe i got from our time was joy! from the job, to finding a place to live, to their excitement about starting this new life…their happiness and vision were contagious!

the hour i got to spend with them last night inspired me even more to think globally when it comes to the church and reaching people. even though they are moving far, far away, we can stay connected through technology, and we can help support them in their efforts to reach people for christ. and i can’t wait to hear what happens!

That’s what I love so much about living in this generation! I really think that there is no better time to be alive and reaching people for Christ. As a body we’re able to be more connected with more people in more places than we’ve ever been!

Our God does big things! In the past, we’ve been able to travel a good amount to do ministry. Now with the baby, I’m curious to see if God continues our wandering ways.

Wow, that’s awesome. I went to Bangkok last year for a couple of days, on my way to Cambodia. It was the most interesting city I’ve ever experienced. I hope to go back soon and spend more time there.

I’m de-lurking to say: it is a joy to see God work all over the world. If you don’t travel outside your own country, do mission trips – it is something you know exists but haven’t experienced. My husband’s job took us out of the US, we are not missionaries – but we found a great little church, I found a women’s Bible study (Beth Moore study at that!) and God continues to let our family grow in a place that is beautiful but is “poor in Spirit” – and that from the local pastor in our village. I started reading blogs after we moved – to feel connected to things back home. So it’s BooMama’s “fault” I found you.

Stay in touch with your Thailand connection – it’s fun AND you never know where God will take you someday – even if just for vacation.

Have an awesome time in Uganda. Many things going on down there! God Bless!

Isn’t obedience always about sacrifice? I don’t think sacrifice is a very western concept. We like the idea of obedience, but not the actual experience.

This might be off-topic, but Anne, if you could handle to eat just ONE piece of durian (very spikey fruit), you’ll get major points from me and the Thai locals.

“Self control is immediate obedience to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.” My sister is a missionary in Thailand and she said this as she responded to her calling years ago. She works with men and women who are sold into a life of prostitution sometimes by their own families. She has always had a heart for those that are hurting and struggling in this area.
Anyway …I just love thinking of self control in this way rather than restraint.

    Relevant.

Simon and I feel called to move back to North Carolina(my homeland!) from England(his!) – I was offered a job on the 8th of January and I’m moving the 8th of February. We know it’s the right thing and we’re thrilled, but really covet your prayers now as we’ve heard it could take up to 6 months for Simon to get his visa and join me – we’re praying for a miracle – please join us! We’ve been so joyful and excited and I’m fighting to keep the prospect of being apart for months from stealing that joy.

I was reading Ephesians 1 last night which talks about God’s power – big enough to raise Jesus from the dead – and how He’s placed Jesus above all rule and authority (including the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services!!).

    Thanks!!
