the BIG announcement – February 10, 2008

A few months ago, Carlos asked on his blog,

What could be done if bloggers put the influence of their blogs together to create change in a single moment?

Well…On February 10…

From all over the country we will fly to Chicago and meet.
From Chicago, we’ll head to Brussels, Belgium.
From Brussels to Nairobi, Kenya.
From Nairobi, to Kampala, Uganda.

We’ll spend several days in Uganda with Compassion International, visiting villages, meeting children and sharing this experience with you through video, photos, and our words. We will bring these children to you.

They need you…

Here is a list of everyone who’ll be going. Visit their sites. Pray for us. We return on February 18. Over 20,000 miles round trip. I can’t wait.

I just commented on Los’s blog, but thought I’d share my “stokedness” here too!

I imagine this journey will bring Uganda just a little closer to those of us in the U.S. checking these blogs everyday. A reminder that our lives are not confined to our immediate surroundings. Sure, we can watch an infomercial or pick up a brochure about organizations like Compassion International, but how much different is it when people we know pick up and go, to take care of our brothers and sisters overseas, then use the Evil Internet to tell us about all the good He has done for us? Blogging for the greater good, what has the world come to? ;-)

What a fantastic idea! With the opportunities afforded to us through our global society (blogs, podcasts, digital media) it’s awesome that you’re harnessing this to affect change.

    awesome, anne!

i went with 11 others to India last July. i suspect that this trip to uganda – just like ours – will jolt you to the core in a truly holy way. :)

We will be praying that this trip not only brings a blessing to the Ugandan’s, but that it opens the eyes of those of you going, to how much people can love God while they have virtually nothing by way of material possessions. I pray that, on your return, your influence will affect the Church in America so that we begin to care even more about the things that are on the heart of God.

Hello there! I am moving to Kampala, Uganda…today actually. Kristi White passed this along to me. I will be arriving in Uganda the morning of the 16th. I would love to keep in touch with you, share my adventures and hear all about your adventures as well. Maybe we can meet up in Kampala! If time allows, I would love to help with anything I can in your work, or just be a new friend in Uganda. I will be 7 miles from the city center at Dorcas Children’s Home.
Hope to hear from you soon! Take care and God blessing over your trip. May you be covered in prayer.

This is awesome. I hope that everything works out too. We were planning a big trip to Nairobi, Kenya and it was just stepped on.

Our scouting trip was scheduled for next week and we have been contacted that there are no Americans allowed to enter Kenya right now with all the political uprising going on. There are people dying in mass numbers right now.

We are waiting to hear if we’ll be able to get into Kenya by March. Our city had a team of missionary doctors there and they were even sent home. I’m praying for God to make something big happen in Kenya.
