nope. you gotta be kidding me. my mom and dad swear by this but its one of those things that i would consider myself more of a naturalist on. injecting yourself with the flu to fight the flu? i think its a medical scam. there you go. my humble opinion. peace.
I have a problem with vaccines in general, much like Chris G.
Homeopathy is the way to go!
I make allowances for vaccines only when death is very likely, like for elderly folks – the flu really could kill an elderly smoker, for example. But, in general I think America is over-vaccinated.
I SO get the flu shot. My husband and sons get the flu shot. Why? Because four years ago I got the flu when I was pregnant with Seth and it sent me on a downward spiral. I was on my back for ten days! Count ’em…10 days! I was awful.
So, yes. The flu shot and I are friends. Plus, my insurance pays for it.
I don’t and it’s entirely because I’m terrified of needles. I had to have blood drawn a little over a year ago and almost freaked out.
Before that it had been almost a decade since my last shot.
My arm hurts just typing this and thinking about it.

You’ve never had the flu? Wow you are lucky! I think that i am better off not getting the flu shot, because when i do, i get the flu. When i don’t, i seem to make it through the winter just fine. I know a lot of people who think the same thing. My advice is to not get the flu shot :-)
No chance. I can handle having my blood drawn but if you come near me with a needle to put “fluids” in? I can sense it and turn into a demon-possessed 2-year-old. …it’s not pretty….
Strangely… I have a skin-allergy to eggs (yolk & shells).
So, my doc hasn’t ever let me get one. He says it might not do anything to me – but there is also the possibility I could swell up into one huge hive.
It made for some very long months when I wasn’t allowed to hold my brother after he got out of NICU, because they were so concerned about the flu bug. :-/
i’m not afraid.
i like needles.
i think they’re fascinating.
i get flu shots.
i’ve never been sick from getting the flu shot.
i won’t pay for the flu shot.
my company sponsors flu shots.
my wife won’t get one.
she says she got she flu from one.
you can’t get the flu from the shot. http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/general/body/flu_vaccine.html (see side effects section)
This year marks my first year to get a flu shot, and so far so good. Just nasty colds–something about working in a church office-or any office for that matter- is germs seems to spread rampantly! All the Pastors and Admins have been in and out for the past couple weeks. Lovely. In the past I get terrible bouts of flu each year, so I am hopeful that I’ll be in the clear this year! We will see!
Yep…My whole family gets them (it’s especially popular with my 5 year old)… About 3 years ago, we ALL had the flu within a 2 week period. My daughter was the only one who didn’t end up in the ER with massive dehydration…that was it for us. I’ll take the shot to avoid reliving that nightmare anyday.
Vaccines in general creep me out. They’re just not very natural, many have disturbing and confusing ingredients and I think there has not been enough research on different immunizations (especially MMR and hepatitis) to make them completely safe. But that’s a long story so I won’t go on and on here. :) Nope, I don’t ever get the flu shot, I may have gotten the flu once when I was younger but I don’t remember!

You can’t get the flu from a flu shot. There are thousands of different stains of flu…if you got the flu on a year you had a flu shot, chances are you got a different strand than the flu shot.
We get flu shots every year…if Max gets the flu it could kill him. So we don’t take chances with him getting the flu. We get the shot, and anyone who is around him with any sort of frequency also needs to get the flu shot, or not come around during cold and flu season.
Whether or not you get the flu shot the best way to avoid it is to learn 2 simple habits…don’t touch your face with your hands…and wash your hands correctly. That helps keep all germs away!
Funny you should ask. Wife, child, and I did not get the flu shot and my 14-month old son was diagnosed with the flu yesterday. Thankfully, he is already feeling better. The doctor said that 5 children have come in this week with the flu who RECEIVED the flu shot. Apparently, they guessed wrong on the strain this year.
I did for the first time this year. Mainly because I had surgery and my immune system is weak. It wasn’t a big deal, didn’t hurt and hopefully will keep me well(er).
i got my first one ever this year. a day later i had a sore throat and a running nose…. and that last almost 2 weeks. so… yeah i am not sure if helped.
All six in our family get flu shots. It is one of our Thanksgiving weekend traditions. No joke. We are all prone to bronchitis as an outcome of flu and colds and have asthma. When we get the flu, it ALWAYS ends up with serious complications. The only times we have caught the flu since getting these shots have been when the strain covered by the vaccine was different than the strain that we caught. We have minor aches for about 24 hours after each vaccination, but it is NOTHING like getting the flu. Also, we live in a large city, attend large schools and church and several of us work in caregiver roles . . . leaving us more likely to be exposed or to be transmitters to medically vulnerable persons.
I’ve had the flu a couple times. The first time I don’t really remember, the last was a few years ago, lots of aches and pains and stuffy head stuff. Dayquil helped some, my friend and I had the flu at the same time and got to laugh at each other taking the liquid Dayquil until her mom bought us the pills (I was living with them).
I’ve never had a flu shot, and I don’t plan on ever getting one. I would seriously rather have the flu than get a shot.
I do get a flu shot and I have also had the wonderful pleasure of getting the flu. It’s so much fun to hang over the porcelian god spewing your guts out, in hopes that the end of life is somewhere close.
When its all said and done, and life is back to normal, you ever wonder why you turned into the biggest drama queen ever over something so normal.
Got one this year. The church made them available for ten bucks so I figured why not? Plus my doctor said it was a good idea. My doctor = smart. Me = not so smart.
And for you you needle-phobes…It didn’t hurt. Barely felt it.
I have no problem with needles, get blood drawn all the time, but I am very against all the creepy things in a vaccine. Every year my grandmother-in-law gets the shot and then gets sick right after getting it!
Pretty much I don’t believe in it….like I don’t believe in Santa. Not that I think the flu shot doesn’t exist, but that I don’t believe it will rid me of the flu, much like Santa won’t leave me any presents….that jerk!
Yonas
I’ve never had a flu shot, but I got my first ever cortizon shot a couple days ago for my limping left foot…my goodness, that thing was so painful, I almost cursed!!
You’ve never had the flu? As someone who teachers grade 1 students I’m jealous as I get sick every couple months with the flu they so graciously share with me.

Nope… I prefer not to get any more shots than I have to.
nooooooooooope….even though my wife wants me to….and its not that I’m afraid of shots either. I think it is the tough man syndrome

I don’t get the flu shot. I might have gotten it when I was younger but I don’t remember.
I was required to while in the Air Force Reserve (97-03), but I have been inconsistent since then. :)

I only get the flu when I get a flu shot. Thus, no.

First of all, I would never get something in an injectionable form that I can get in a mist.
Secondly, NEEDLES?? Not unless I am giving birth and even then the epidural scared me more than labor pains.

i, too, have never had the flu shot or the flu. and the picture is classic.

Never had it. Never get the shots.
Ditto on Chris G. I am way crunchy!
Absolutely not, it does not make sense to me!
the flu is horrible…i have had it. but i have never had a flu shot….
i’ll take the flu over the shot.
that’s how much i dislike needles.
not a fan at all.
nope
Nope. No way.
no flu shots…m.
Usually I get a flu shot, I have bad asthma, but since I have left the health care field,(2 years) I have not had the shots. I don’t miss em.
Got one this year. The church made them available for ten bucks so I figured why not? Plus my doctor said it was a good idea. My doctor = smart. Me = not so smart.

I think it’s funny how many people here are anti-flu shot.
NO to flu shots!!!
I have no problem with needles, get blood drawn all the time, but I am very against all the creepy things in a vaccine. Every year my grandmother-in-law gets the shot and then gets sick right after getting it!
