You know, I keep thinking that it should be about that time.
But it’s not. Not yet.
I get a little bit antsy once it’s starts getting colder and the house starts feeling warmer. For me, it’s a timing appropriateness issue for both Christmas lights and pulling out the old Christmas Wreath Yankee Candle. Delish.
I will wait, impatiently, until Thanksgiving Day. Or maybe the day after. But not one minute later.
Lights make me happy.!

We start bringing out all of our Christmas decorations (both inside and out) over Veteran’s Day weekend, and by Thanksgiving weekend, we’re ready to begin work on the outside decorations. This year it will start the Monday before Thanksgiving. We always have the brightest house within a few block radius.
Can’t wait! Usually is after Thanksgiving. But, being Florida a year round summer weather, as soon as we begin to feel the nice cool weather.
Nice Blog!

totally went to a christmas store today over lunch. i couldn’t get enough of the sparklies. :)
Definitely after Thanksgiving. This involves the only collectibles that we display: Department 56 Christmas Village. We set up all our “stuff” while watching Christmas Vacation. My wife and I can almost quote the whole movie verbatim. We even quote the naughty stuff. I know, I know….we’re sinners!
Last year our Christmas was pretty screwed up due to renovations as we got our house ready to sell. So this year we’re making up for it… sometime before Thanksgiving.
i was just thinking about this during the drive home tonight. last year i didn’t put them up. this year i’m going to do it right after thanksgiving…unless i spend too much time online blogstalking and never get to the lights.

I adore Christmas, and can’t wait to decorate our new place.
Our tradition is to go to a Christmas Tree farm in Louisburg and cut our tree down the day after Thanksgiving. And then on Saturday (after it’s had time to settle) we decorate it. One of my favorite times of year.
The week before Thanksgiving I go out to the garage and drag the tree in. I leave it up all year with the lights on just so I wont have to set it up. Takes me 5 minutes. The family decorates for hours and I’ll pitch in, but my primary job is done :) Pretty lame I know. I’ve been playing the “I’m a pastor and work Christmas Eve” card to avoid outside lights. This may be the first year I cave as my kids get older….
I always try to wait until after T-day, but this weekend we’re going to Silver Dollar City to see all their Christmas lights. I might not make it toT-day!!
I’m just looking forward to lighting things on fire.
(i.e. candles.)

People on the street next to me already have their lights up and on!!! Maybe a little premature in my opinion. I hope to have ours up on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. (Since we are traveling this year!)
If it were up to my wife, we’d have lights for every holiday. We actually put up orange lights in October for Halloween, leave them up through Thanksgiving, and replace them with white lights the last week in November for Christmas … I know, it exhausts me, too.
Dec 1 this year. Sometimes the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We pile the kids in the truck, head out to a Christmas Tree Farm and cut down the tree. Have lunch, and start hangin’ lights. Yes, the Friday after Thanksgiving is for 5 am shopping. Can’t wait!!!!
i just had a meeting on this years christmas lights 2 days ago..yes, you heard that right, a meeting!…putting forth my vision, expectations, how twinkly i want it, etc…
target started putting out there christmas lights even before halloween so i checked them out and saw what was new this year…im really digging the twinkling LED lights..i will definitely be adding those to the collection this year…mike.
The weekend of Thanksgiving, but not ON Thanksgiving! Although, I leave some white lights up around the kitchen and dining room windows all year. I plug them in when it is a birthday, special party, event or something.
I like sparkly things too. Christina and I often go on evening walks around the neighborhood, just to enjoy the lights and cool air. It is especially pretty and surreal in the fog (something that we get a lot of in the Willamette Valley).
So, are you putting up the lights at the old place for the last time or checking the bulbs after the move at the new place for the first time? Thanks for the reminder. I’ve got to get some new twinkle strings for the tree this year. We just do the tree, but the answer is soon.
Right before Thanksgiving! Here you go w/ another one liner that will get over 100 comments. :-) BTW~It was cool to meet Chris, I’m excited for you guys!
Umm….I hate to admit this but we never took ours down last year! We live in the country so there’s no homeowners association or anything. We kept meaning to take them down but about May I decided….what the heck!

They stay up year round! haha, j/k. Thanksgiving Day!

I tend to be a scrooge when it comes to decorations. Growing up my mom always had wreaths and decor for every single occasion. Now I find myself enjoying white walls. I do like to go look at lights some, but I’m a full time grad student who drive over an hour one way to get to school, plus I am volunteering at my church close to 30 hours a week. I’m never home anyway, so why put up lights??

Anne, in Alabama, we don’t take our lights down. All kidding aside I have seen houses that leave their lights up AND on all year long.
Our tree (and thus lights) goes up the first week of December, but since we just moved into a house I may have to buy some outside lights to put up…and who knows when those will go up!
corn allergy guy
i have had mine hanging in my office for the past seven months
The weekend after Thanksgiving. However, they come down sometime in April – it’s just too dang cold to mess with’em until then. Since you’re moving to OK soon, you’ll understand – especially in OKC where the wind blows constantly. Brrrrrrrr! When you gonna come visit the best campus of LC.tv? BTW, that would be Tulsa.

I am a staunch post-Thanksgiving girl. Then I like to go nuts.
December 1. always. and it comes down december 30. :D
I don’t know decorate myself, but my friends who will be celebrating their first Christmas as roommates discussed this matter last night.
“When will we decorate for Christmas? After Thanksgiving?”
Then, after twenty seconds to pause for disbelief, she definitely clarified it would be before Thanksgiving, DUH.
The day after Thanksgiving…AFTER PEOPLE AFTER!!!!! I can’t believe all of the Christmas commercials already!
Ha ha…
You sound like my wife… excpet when she asks that question it really means “go put the lights up!”…
Actually I am a redneck.. and all year I hear from the neighbors, “when you gonna take those lights down?”
LOL
Day after Thanksgiving here. That’s how I avoid getting drug out to shop.

I am hoping to use my recent illness and surgery as an excuse to have no lights this year. I am scared to get on the roof!

Day after Thanksgiving. They come down on December 27th.
Collins Family Tradition states that the tree goes up the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I looked it up to be sure.
As soon as I can get them all untangled from the large ball (remember Chevy Chase in Christmas vacation) :-)
We put ours up the weekend after Thanksgiving
