something very cool…

some of my favorite people over at lifechurch.tv announced an amazing thing today!

one of the greatest things i love about lifechurch.tv is their vision for the global church, not only the local church. they see far beyond the walls of their campuses and out into the borderless world wide web, already with things like their internet campus (which i’ve attended three out of the last five weeks) and their island in second life.

well, their latest endeavour is called YouVersion.com. briefly…

YouVersion is a revolutionary online Bible that enables community and collaboration like never before. Choose from various translations and read Scripture in a fresh, new way. Take personal study notes, and discover and contribute audio, video, text and images. With YouVersion, you will find communities of people exploring and interacting with God’s Word.

You can read more about YouVersion on Bobby’s post today on the Swerve blog.

usually, I am really cynical when churches try “new” stuff – because 9 times out of 10, it isn’t new- it’s just rebranded or redesigned. YouVersion is completely revolutionary and I can’t wait until the full site launches!

    don’t you think “YouAnything” is just rebranded? this is one of my biggest issues w/ christians and creativity.

    Thanks Anne for the link….we are exited for sure about it.

    Joshua…interesting thought…Not so sure about that, but I know the tool itself will be very fresh, new and frankly really needed. (by the way….your blog and photos are awesome!)

    Terry – “fresh, new and frankly really needed”? I have been using eBible.com for almost a year (beta user) and they are doing very similar things. You guys seem to have some cool feature ideas but user-driven content and community around the Bible is being done and done pretty well over there already. Sure there is lots to be tweaked and extended but I would have hoped you guys were working with them somehow.

    Just my 2-bits.

    I’m aware of ebible.com…those guys have done a great job incorporating some cool web 2.0 aspects to the Bible…like tagging bookmarked verses and adding comments. I also like the API they put together.
    However, what I am describing with YouVersion will be quite a bit different in both form and function and I “think” purpose (though I do not specifically know their purpose). Unfortunately a blog post doesn’t do a great job of presenting it, but I’ll do my best to clarify where needed.

    :)

    @terry:
    i believe you and trust that the product will be very useful. i do not intend to insult you or your team regarding the name of the product, but i think you can see where i’m coming from regarding christians and creativity. i sometimes find being an artist and being a christian to be conflicting, which is very frustrating. this is more of a personal struggle.
    thanks for your kind words. i really appreciate it. let me know if you or your gathering have use for photography w/ global themes.

    Joshua….no insult at all! I totally understand where you are coming from…and can get very frustrated as well.
