i never go anywhere without even a little make up on. never. ever. after moving this weekend, i just didn’t care and went three whole days without make up. that included my saturday night journey to my office so i could work on a little freelance given our internet at home wasn’t connected yet. and inspired by mary demuth’s “morning face” challenge, i kind of modified it and now challenge you.
below is me. with make up, and without. with doing my hair, and without.
here i am. nothing to cover up anything. nothng to make my eyes look bigger or my cheekbones higher or my skin not as pasty as it really is.
[am i really putting this online?]
yes. i am. we always make sure we put our most hip or creative or artist or professional photos on our blogs so that others whom we will never meet can form some kind of impression of us.
today, i remove that barrier between you and me. here it is. here i am. and i challenge you to do the same.
just you.
beautiful you.

That is amazing Todd. I would have never known the difference! Can the made up you help me write my book?
I’m a little offended that you’re judging me based on exterior appearances.
you are beautiful
Thanks Tim, I hope that makes Todd feel better. See, Todd, even Tim thinks you are beautiful! :) Ain’t nobody judging nobody!
:-)
You are right. Far too often we are so concerned about the impression we make on strangers. They don’t know the real me, and they will form an opinion of me based on my look. My real friends have all seen me sans make-up and with scraggly hair. Thanks for being real with us!
I don’t wear much makeup… but a morning picture on my blog? I don’t think I’m brave enough for that yet. :)
Oh good grief Anne, there’s no difference except for the color. You look fabulous undone! As do I so there’s no reason for me to show you anything. ahem.
generally, I’m a fan of the “au natural” look. yes, make-up helps and gives color and… by golly, Anne, you really have a beautiful face when all “prettied up”… but I kinda dig the non-made-up you. I honestly love looking at my wife without makeup on. I know there is that psychological thing that happens to people — men and women alike — when they groom themselves and get all gussied up… but I don’t really think all of that effort is necessary, oftentimes, for one to “look” good.
You are beautiful sans makeup. You have lovely, beautiful skin. Wow.

well that was very cool and couragious, ty – i gotta start using more blusher, lol :)
You look better without.
Really, your skin tones are too pretty to cover up.
you don’t even need make-up……..i’ve whittled my routine down to just mascara……ok, sometimes eyeliner too…..alright, when i feel pale, i do use just a tiny bit of blush……..
YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL…..
thank you for posting this! what a challenge. reminds me of a picture a friend posted online of me sans-makeup, rest, clear skin, and decent-looking hair. a pic from one of those “I don’t care what I look like I’m just hanging out with my girlfriends at home” evenings, but somehow I cared when smiley tired-looking me showed up online for all to see. after hearing my complaint a guy friend actually said “we all wake up in the morning” implying that we all look crappy at some point in the day. and though still slightly embarrassed, I thought: okay. true. keeping in mind I’m always more critical of myself than others are.
rad.
