i reapply my lipstick.

i reapply my lipstick.

i know there is Truth.
and i thought i knew truth.
fortunately for all of us
they can be mutually exclusive
{although, they shouldn’t be}
when sorrow redeemed itself
i found the grace i had hidden
but when light shined brightest,
grace became lost in the shadow
of memories and questions
i haven’t really talked about sports on here very much. but here you go. i am a huge, huge, huge basketball follower. not fan, follower. it requires discipline and sacrifice (like staying up late for west coast games…) i played basketball all throughout my childhood and in high school, and was at first a giant knicks girl…back in the day with ewing and starks. i was watching when the OJ chase interrupted the 1994 finals. then when the triple j’s (jimmy, jamal and jason) came out with the mavericks right after i moved to dallas, i quickly moved my loyalties. every since then, i have been a mavericks addict.
a sadness overwhelms me. i know this round isn’t over yet, and i know the mavs are capable of a comeback. but i have to admit i’m a little worried. i think in order to win this, they have got to do a couple of things. they have been playing a lot of man-to-man defense and i think with golden state, they really need to go to a 2-3 zone. golden state (except for baron davis) really can’t shoot from outside the paint and i think if they kept them out in the perimeter, it would disrupt the rhythm they’ve been showing. dallas is great at rebounding, and this would really put them back in the game for some possible fast breaks…which they have NOT been doing much of. i think offensively, they REALLY need to tighten up. they are throwing up weak screens, making sloppy shots. i think after having so many fouls from game 3, they were playing extremely scared tonight. both jerry stackhouse and dirk were not at the top of their game. they know better, and they should be playing much, much better.
anyway, i am going to try and go to sleep now. sigh.
at 9pm CDT tonight, the top ranked dallas mavericks need some help getting their stuff together and actually getting more points than fouls…your prayers are appreciated.

thanks to one of my amazing coworkers, jordan, i met a couple cool guys today who travel with life choices. anyway, after getting to hear what they are doing across the country (they were headed down to waco) and signing a copy of one of my articles for them (which was really uncomfortable…i could never be famous and do that on a consistent basis…i know i turned bright red!!) we somehow started talking about oswald chambers and i was reminded i needed to catch up as he is usually a daily read for me. i missed this on monday, and thought it was extremely applicable to those of us who are involved in serving our local church, whether paid or volunteer. so, enjoy the wisdom below and when you’re done, check out what life choices is doing!
Beware of any work for God that causes or allows you to avoid concentrating on Him. A great number of Christian workers worship their work. The only concern of Christian workers should be their concentration on God. This will mean that all the other boundaries of life, whether they are mental, moral, or spiritual limits, are completely free with the freedom God gives His child; that is, a worshiping child, not a wayward one. A worker who lacks this serious controlling emphasis of concentration on God is apt to become overly burdened by his work. He is a slave to his own limits, having no freedom of his body, mind, or spirit. Consequently, he becomes burned out and defeated. There is no freedom and no delight in life at all. His nerves, mind, and heart are so overwhelmed that God?s blessing cannot rest on him.
But the opposite case is equally true–once our concentration is on God, all the limits of our life are free and under the control and mastery of God alone. There is no longer any responsibility on you for the work. The only responsibility you have is to stay in living constant touch with God, and to see that you allow nothing to hinder your cooperation with Him. The freedom that comes after sanctification is the freedom of a child, and the things that used to hold your life down are gone. But be careful to remember that you have been freed for only one thing–to be absolutely devoted to your co-Worker.
We have no right to decide where we should be placed, or to have preconceived ideas as to what God is preparing us to do. God engineers everything; and wherever He places us, our one supreme goal should be to pour out our lives in wholehearted devotion to Him in that particular work. “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might . . .”
some days it’s just good to be silly.

Besides being one of the worst officiated hockey games I have ever seen, it was just sad. Hopefully the Mavs can pull it together and take it all the way…

as i am digging through my junk drawer at work, i find a misplaced and forgotten 1099-R form for my retirement plan. crap. crap. crap. now i must fill out form 1040x for federal, and since it was money put in when i lived in kansas, i must fill out a kw-5 form as well. just when i thought my tax filing woes were over. like one can remember every 1099-R she receives…
Many people are upset and/or think that television and other media outlets have misused their power by showing the videos, photos, and parts of the manifesto from V-Tech killer, Cho Seung-Hui.
I disagree.
You must take into context my background in press, my current dealings in media (print & radio), and my journalistic nature. I have never marched at a free speech rally, but I completely agree with the words of Benjamin Franklin:
He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither.
People are upset because they think this media frenzy with the videos, photos, and writings will ignite other psychotic idiots out there to view Seung-Hui as a martyr. That this will envoke supressed feelings of violence. My personal belief is if you are already that screwed up, the concept of this situation is going to set those thoughts and actions in motion. It doesn’t take a video, photo, or manifesto to do that.
All it takes is the situation.
Some argue that Seung-Hui is getting exactly what he wanted – infamy. He got that before any of the NBC packet was released. He got that when he committed the largest mass killing in the history of the United States.
I believe it is the press’ job to report the news, and use their judgment to decide what is encompassed in that. And I believe it is our responsibility to change the channel if you don’t want to see it. And yes, there are sick freaks out there who will be fascinated by this guy, the photos, the videos, and the press gives them exactly what they want.
But that isn’t the press’ fault. That removes personal responsibility from those who choose to view such things. And if somebody out there goes out and copy-cats this guy, it is not the press’ fault. It is that person’s fault.
The media is also doing a great job remembering lives lost, dreams ended. You can’t deny that.
Anyway, there is my rant. I know from previous politically charged postings that the comments here could get ugly, so I ask that you respectfully comment.
And for a different point of view, please check out my dear friend Los’ blog.
